WORKSHOP PLANNING

Choose Equipment by the Leatherworking Task

Keep your workflow together while choosing each tool for its application.

This collection brings together machines and practical tools for leather goods workshops, from cutting components to preparing straps and finishing edges. Select the operations you need for bags, belts, wallets, footwear components or craft projects, then check the material and tooling requirements for each machine.

SELECTION START POINTLeather type and thickness matter as much as the machine's nominal size.

Softness, tanning method, coating and workpiece shape affect feeding, cutting, thinning and finishing results.

PROCESS ROUTES

Choose by the Workshop Operation

Three stages for preparing, forming and finishing leather components.

01 · CUT & PUNCH

Shape the Leather

Die-cut components, punch holes or cut strips with suitable presses and tooling. Match the material thickness, die height, cutting area and required force.

02 · THIN & FORM

Prepare Edges and Straps

Skive or split compatible leather, then fold or roll straps using the appropriate equipment and forming attachment. Vegetable-tanned, chrome-tanned and soft leather need different checks.

03 · FINISH & ASSEMBLE

Finish Edges and Sew

Groove and burnish suitable leather edges, or sew compatible light leather components. Match the equipment to the leather surface, layer thickness and required finish.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Leatherworking Equipment FAQs

Practical guidance on material fit, capacity and included tooling.

Can one skiving machine handle every type of leather?

No. Some models are intended for firm vegetable-tanned leather, while others support softer or chrome-tanned leather. Confirm the leather type, thickness and required thinning width for the chosen machine.

How do I choose the capacity of a cutting press?

Consider the material, total cutting-edge length, die height, working area and feeding clearance. Press tonnage alone does not determine whether a particular cutting die and workpiece will fit.

Are cutting dies and punches included?

Package contents vary. Many presses require application-specific dies or punches. Confirm the tooling dimensions and what the selected package includes before ordering.

Can a leather punching press also be used for die cutting?

A suitable press can perform different operations with compatible tooling, within its clearance and load limits. The MA-3222 belongs to the leather punching and cutting workflow; confirm the intended die or punch before choosing the setup.

Do strip-cutting machines also fold and laminate leather?

Functions depend on the model and installed attachments. Do not assume that every strip cutter includes folding or laminating equipment. Confirm the complete configuration for the required operation.

Will the sewing machine handle thick leather assemblies?

The 106-RP listing describes use with light leather. Confirm layer thickness, needle, thread and feeding requirements; do not assume that a machine suitable for heavy fabric can sew every thick leather assembly.

Are the forming attachments complete machines?

No. The belt-roller shaper or folder is an accessory and must fit a compatible machine. Check the selected option, required strip width and mounting arrangement.
