Metal marking tools serve different tasks: identifying equipment with a nameplate, personalizing a dog tag, adding characters to jewelry or repeating a fixed logo. The correct machine or punch depends on the material and geometry as well as the design.

Share the metal grade, thickness and hardness where known. Tools intended for soft metals should not be assumed to mark hardened steel or stainless steel.

Can every steel stamp mark stainless steel?
No. Several jewelry stamps are specified for softer metals and exclude stainless steel. A machine listing that names stainless steel does not make every punch suitable for it. Confirm the grade, thickness and hardness with the selected tool.
What is the difference between a tag embosser and a hand punch?
A tag machine holds the workpiece and uses a character-selection mechanism. A hand punch creates a character or design using a suitable striking or pressing setup. Positioning, workpiece support and the finished impression differ.
Will the mark be raised or recessed?
This depends on the machine, die arrangement and workpiece. Dog tag embossers can produce raised characters, while punches generally create recessed impressions. Confirm the selected product's marking result.
Are replacement character wheels included?
Some machines include one selected wheel, with additional wheels sold separately. An option labelled 'only gear' is a replacement component, not a complete machine. Match the wheel to the specific machine.
Why do some number sets contain nine punches for digits 0–9?
On the relevant nine-piece sets, the same punch is rotated to produce 6 and 9. Check the character chart and selected size before ordering.
Can a steel punch set replace hot foil stamping letters?
These are different tooling systems. Metal punches are designed for mechanical marking, while movable hot-stamping type must fit a compatible heated holder. Do not assume that they are interchangeable.
What information is needed for a custom logo stamp?
Send the artwork, final imprint dimensions, metal grade and thickness, workpiece photos and intended striking or pressing method. Tool geometry and achievable detail should be confirmed before production.
